Opt for soft bras with wide straps: if you are undergoing upper body radiation, you may find your bras to be uncomfortable during radiation. Bras with wide straps and no underwire won’t dig into or rub against your skin and breathable fabrics will allow for optimal comfort.
Do you need a special bra after lumpectomy?
Wearing a normal bra can cause you pain, or irritate the area where you had surgery. If you had a lumpectomy, we recommend that you wear a wireless bra 24 hours a day for the first week or two. If you had a mastectomy, it is up to you if you’d like to wear a bra or camisole unless otherwise told by your surgical team.
How long do I need to wear a bra at night after lumpectomy?
If you wear a bra, it should be well-fitted and supportive. You should wear it during the night, for 1 week. You will probably be able to go back to work or your normal routine in 1 to 3 weeks after the surgery.
What should I wear after a lumpectomy?
A button-down or loose-fitting shirt. A supportive bra, such as a sports bra, to wear after your surgery.
