Strengthen Your Back & Reduce Unwanted Fat with These Easy Moves!
Winter is nearly upon us, and for many of us that means cold, shiny floors and creaking joints. But it doesn’t have to be that way! Strengthen your back and reduce unwanted fat with these easy moves! Not only will you be prepared for the upcoming season, but you’ll also improve your overall health and fitness.
Firstly, we must go over some basics. The core is the foundation of a healthy and strong body; it’s essential to understand and practice core exercises. To get started right away, you can do a basic plank exercise, holding yourself up with your arms pressing firmly into the ground and your back flat while squeezing your abdominals. This quick movement will help strengthen your back muscles and provide your whole body with a nice, warm pump.
Secondly, you can hook your feet together and alternate rocking your knees side-to-side while keeping your back flat against the ground. This classic exercise strengthens the core as well as targeting your obliques and lower back. Additionally, try doing a bridge, extending one leg out and lifting with your glutes, and your lower and mid-back. You can also do a modified plank, bringing your knees up until your hips are parallel to the ground and resetting. Repeat this several times to really strengthen your back and core.
Thirdly, you can do core exercises using bodyweight movements. For example, do a basic squat or lunge, and extend your arms out above your head while keeping your back straight. Doing this move will really light up the core and burn some calories while you’re at it. You can also two butterflies together and wrap your arms around them while you stand, then pull them to your chest. This move activates your core and is great for targeting your entire back.
Fourthly, try doing a few moves with a stability ball. To start, lie down on the ball, stabilizing your core as you balance on top and pressing your arms up until they’re parallel to the floor. This will help engage your core and will really help tone your back. You can also do a single-leg glute bridge, with your feet atop the ball as you lift from your glutes to engage your core and back muscles.
Finally, you can add kettlebells and dumbbells to your back strengthening arsenal. With these added weights, you can do a deadlift or bent-over row to target the back in a focused manner. Doing a set of these with different weights will challenge your muscles and really burn some fat. For a unique twist to your upper back strength, grab a dumbbell of appropriate weight and do a renegade row, pressing it up and down as you drop into a modified plank.
To really maximize your efforts, add in cardio intervals and circuits to your routine. Doing this will help your body burn fat while also adding in some strength moves to keep it toned and tight. No matter your goal, you can use these easy moves to strengthen your back and reduce unwanted fat. So grab your set of weights and make the most of this winter season!
